Black and white booklet with scenery and Scandinavian text...hum, sounds like this is right up my alley. And it sure is! Drapsnatt is a Swedish duo made of Vinterfader (rasps and keyboards) and multi-instrumentalist Narstrand (clean vocals, guitar, bass and drums).
The thing I liked about Drapsnatt is how they blend together varied paces and emotions into each composition. They do this with good taste and a melodic edge. It's interesting to know that the one responsible for the sick and desperately wicked vocals also handles the keyboards, which provide this ambient/epic feel throughout this album. As for the other band member, Narstrand, he brings in a lot of variation and ambience as well. He's got a good set of epic clean pipes, he can kick with his bass and drum kit, while his riffs are crunchy. His melodious side appears through harmonies crafted from delicate arpeggios. The extreme parts aren't overdone and the calmer moments, as well as the keyboard tones are not the least cheesy on I Denna Skog. Without being of a groundbreaking nature, Drapsnatt proves with this album that there is always room for a personal touch in the black metal arts.
Many of the nine tracks deserved to be mentioned, but to point out just a few: "I Denna Skog", "Under Fullmanens Sken", "Fader Frost" and "En Sista Vandring".
