Second album for this band, who are bravely trying to overcome the burden of being a Norwegian Black Metal band to make some exciting music and halfway succeeding. The good: Gjenferdsel get a good guitar sound and some venomous vocals, so their music has real visceral presence and bite that hooks you in – definitely not a 'bathroom' recording. They have some good riffs on this, and are not shy about just leaning on it and being heavy for heaviness' sake. The not so good: songs that are repetitive and go nowhere, and songs that all sound a lot alike. When the band slows down some, as at the beginning of "Intet", they can kick out some seriously badass riffage, but then they get back to the rat-tat-tat drum pattern and kill the momentum. This is an album bursting with sharp and powerful riffs held back from greatness by pedestrian songwriting and lackluster drum work.
