Pertness. That's a weird band name, even for Power Metal. That said, it is the music that lays within the CD, as opposed to the name, album title or even artwork that ultimately determines quality. By no means genre breaking, Pertness delivers a solid Power Metal album full of heavy, crushing riffs and hammer-on-anvil drums. There are plenty of big choruses surrounding the gruff vocals of lead singer Tom Schluchter.

Switzerland isn't exactly renowned for Heavy Metal, with polar opposites Krokus and Celtic Frost probably being the most well known exports. Pertness, however, are looking to join their countrymen on the international stage. From the Beginning to the End varies in tempo from mid-paced to some standard Power Metal double kick drumming, but not so much as to become annoying. Schluchter's voice, along with the somewhat generic songs, gives From the Beginning to the End a sort of Rebellion-meets-Accept sound. Nothing wrong with that but, as mentioned, nothing new is on offer. That may very well be the downfall of From the Beginning to the End. Fun and entertaining while it is on, there isn't anything that makes you want to listen again right away. Songs like "Invisible Chains" and "Foggy Dew" gallop along, giving the album a shot of adrenaline whereas "Another Innocent Victim" and "The Legacy" stick to a slower tempo and a heavier sound. It is well played, but ultimately, you've heard this before.

If Power Metal is your thing, From the Beginning to the End is a safe "blind" purchase. If not, you will probably want to look elsewhere.
