Kenon are a highly underground band, to the point where there was not a whole lot of info I could get on them. They are from California, and they seem to speak mostly Spanish. They also play some cool hateful Black Metal that is down and dirty while still possessing a lot of musicality. The basis of Kenon's sound is chaotic riffing and venomous rasps, but they also use some keys and inject some highly impressive acoustic playing into the mix. The keys are old-fashioned and sound like the kind of stuff Emperor used to do, creating a kind of horror-soundtrack feeling. The recording is a bit rough, but they claim these songs were tracked in "a bedroom", and if that's the case they put some studio jobs I have heard to shame. This kind of feral aggression and underground dedication put a smile on my face, and it can do the same to you. You can download this for free from their MySpace I think, so there is no excuse not to get it. Shit like "Sacrificial Chamber" is what underground Black Metal is all about. |
