I don't usually review compilations, but this one is one hell of a monster. "From Hell" spans 4 CDs and totals 77 songs from various extreme metal artists (and a couple of not-so artists. ;)) If you're not at all into extreme metal, you can stop reading. There's just about anything in the extreme (and near extreme) scene here, including such big names as Mayhem, ...and Oceans, In Aeternum, etc..., some surprises (Antaeus), and some lesser-known bands (I think) such as Monsterspank, Mahavatar and Despirited - just to name a few (you don't expect me to type out 77 band names, do you? :)) One thing I was afraid of when I got this was that this would sound too much alike, but those who put this together did an excellent job "shuffling the variety around" and this results in something that's surprisingly listenable (I've never been much of a compilation person..) Of course, with so many different artists, you are bound to find a few that you absolutely can't stand, but chances are the majority of the stuff here will be to your liking. There's everything from Thrash to raw Black Metal on this compilation.

I'd say if there is one compilation you need to buy, this is the one. It's a good way to sample a very broad range of bands, whether you're already in this type or music or want to check out some stuff to know where to begin your descent to hell.
