Still not knowing how to describe this CD, I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. :) Clean vocals, a what seems to be a mixture of heavy metal and doom with some progressive elements is probably the best description to give this. Overall this has a very dark feeling, not really negative per se, but a mix of depression, anger and melancholia. Hmmm OK that does sound negative, but it's a little difficult to describe in words, and I'd say one remarkable thing about the atmosphere of this CD is that it'll vary along with your mood. Maybe I'm trying to be too deep here... hep. All that said, I still have no idea how to categorise this band, nor do I have much of a clue as to which bands to compare Aleph to.
Worth noting is that the last two songs total over 20 minutes between them, both sending you through a whole variety of emotions, and lots of tempo changes. :) Nothing negative to say about the band's performance on this recording, very nicely done, and even the keyboards are not too intrusive. I think this will mostly appeal to fans of progressive metal who like their stuff dark, but your best bet is to check out the sound samples.
