With an album cover this misogynist and a title this idiotic, I was expecting this to be a full-on blast of super-generic Black/Death Metal, and I was absolutely spot on. With a crunchy, clear production and slick playing, this Canadian band proceeds to almost totally waste their obvious potential by remaining faithfully wedded to the most tedious songwriting conventions of Black Metal: speed instead of riffs, screaming instead of emotion or ideas. This disc sometimes shows flashes of genuine music, but these flashes are almost immediately throttled by faceless speed and tiresome effects-laden shrieking. If you think Panzer Division Marduk is the be-all-end-all of Black Metal, then don't hesitate to grab this. If you want anything actually interesting to happen, then I advise looking elsewhere. |
