This is a demo of melodeath from Italian band Ammonal, and overall it's not too bad. This is surprisingly heavy, and lacks a lot of the stigmata of modern Melodic Death which I hate. The keyboards are rather pointless and mixed oddly, so that they don't really sound like they belong there, but the riffs are pretty good and the production is decent. Vocals are the expected grunt but at least they have some meat on them and aren't a dry rasp. There is a definite bluesey sound to the leads that I don't like – it just doesn't fit with the sound of the rest of the music. This demo shows a functioning band at work, who have more going on than just trying to sound like Dark Tranquility, but there's nothing really extraordinary about it. |
