This is a very cool disc of epic Black Metal, which is billed as "Black/Doom" but is not really that doomy. Empire is a big, moody album with slow rolling tremolo riffs and a very epic atmosphere. The first track opens with a long passage of keys and more atmospheric sounds, and I was skeptical, but once the metal starts up this is a heavy, evil riff-fest in the vein of some earlier Hellveto works, or maybe old Arckanum. Very atmospheric, very riff-driven and epic. Several of these songs are in the 8-10 minute range, and they never get boring. This is a band I will have to keep an eye on. This is a bit shorter than I would like, and my version comes with two bonus tracks which are poorly recorded and disposable, but I like this disc quite a bit.
