I really didn't like this at first, however with each listen I will admit that it grew on me. Mrznja, which is also the name of the one guy who recorded this album, classes this EP as "black metal exclusively, and concerns no trends in expressing and creating its art form". I have to say if this is one person playing all the instruments I'm quite impressed, the guitar work has a good depth to it and doesn't resign to tremolo picking the same six notes for eight minutes. The drum work is quality, particularly in the first track, the 11-minute "Ako Sam Nekada Imao Srce" which translates to "If I ever had a heart".
The weaker points here are the vocals, the spoken parts are retarded, and then we have a more monotonous rasp which has an echo effect to it, which also isn't very good. However when he goes for it and unleashes hell, he sounds fucking demonic. More of that next time, please. Also I'm not sure if it's just because the promo I have is a MP3 but the final track is twice as loud as the first two, which ruins the black metal trance I'd entered in the earlier tracks. I'd like to hope it's just with the MP3's though, either way the final track ends up being my least favorite here, I wouldn't be surprised if it was recorded differently because the guitars tend to crackle a lot more.
However the first two tracks are admittedly pretty cool and I wasn't expecting to find enjoyment on my first impression. I'd like to hear a full-length from Mrznja as there is definitely some potential here. If you're a fan of the one-man basement sound of black metal then I'd certainly recommend giving this album a look.
