I have another Horned Almighty album around here somewhere, and I have pretty much the same opinion of that one as this one: Meh. Horned Almighty play a kind of Black n' Roll style that's like Darkthrone crossed with Motorhead, though that makes it sound way cooler than it is. Style is not songwriting though, and HA's songwriting is just relentlessly bland. The riffs are flat, the vocals are one-dimensional and almost literally one-note, and the production mixes everything into a big flat slab. This is not exactly bad, but there is just nothing good about it, it's blah. You wait for something: some riff or melody, to stick its head up and be interesting, you will wait in vain. |
