Extremely derivative but enjoyable Prog Metal album here from Australian newcomers Fracture, who share their name with about a million other bands, all playing this kind of serious 'thinking man's metal' nonsense. Frankly, I love the genre, but it pains me when so little innovation is attempted. Still, Simple Chaos is a nice release, one full of riffs and melody lines taken from Redemption, Dream Theater, Exhibition, Dreamscape, and just about every other act that ever tipped an hourglass. The production is solid and the songwriting is pretty hot, too, with tracks like "Frame Of Mind" and "A Common Thread" standing out due to some cool riffing and well structured vocal lines. There's nothing here you haven't heard a thousand times before, and unless you're a total genre fanatic you will find little of value. Fracture could produce a decent album with a bit more experience, but for now you can probably ignore it and pretend you never even heard about it.
