I'm not that familiar with Grand Magus – same old "so many bands, so little time" excuse. This is in fact the only album of theirs I've heard. Doom-tinged, slow, stoner-ish/hard rock-ish Heavy Metal is what's offered on Grand Magus. From beginning to end, the vibe of the album makes you imagine a room full of people smoking pot sometimes in the early 70s. That guitar tone and beat just scream of that era. Heavy but not overly so – really more of a "chill out, dude" kind of "feel-good heavy", the album is slow and even a bit monotonous, without really being boring. Not exactly my kind of thing, but I can see some people getting a kick out of this kind of stuff.
