Grave is a band that released their first full-length album all the way back in 1991. They haven’t released anything new since 1996 so the title of the album is certainly fitting. I admit that I haven’t got any of their other material although I have heard of this band before. Sometimes it is a little bit difficult to get everything that I would like since there are other things that I tend to find a bit necessary (damn food and rent). Well in any case if this album is any indication of the previous efforts I may just have to eat Ramen Noodles for a week so I have the money to pick up their back catalogue…heh

Grave is a death metal band from Sweden of all places…now before you start thinking "Oh great, another Swedish melodic death metal band, that’s all we need." You may want to take a listen to this band. This is definitely death metal but it is nowhere near the melodic variety. The music is mainly mid tempo with some absolutely crushingly heavy riffs that are at the same time pretty damn catchy. Now there is certainly melody but it is reserved for melody lines played over the top of the main riff to add that extra punch and depth to the overall sound. The vocals are your basic death metal style pissed off variety, which fits perfectly for the music itself. These guys certainly know how to make a heavy sounding record…I swear after listening to this the CD even felt heavier when I was putting it back in the sleeve…heh

Overall I can certainly see this album garnering some attention and thrusting Grave back into a more noticeable position. Fans of Death or even Bolt Thrower may want to give this a listen. Recommended.
