Probably the most damning thing I can say about Marienbad's debut, Werk 1 – Nachtfall, is that there isn't much to say about it at all. Werk 1 – Nachtfall sounds pretty good, dripping, as it does, with slow, doomy Gothic Metal riffs and the overly emotional vocals of singer M. Roth. Sadly, it's almost completely forgettable once it is over. The lyrics, which deal with some strange events surrounding a town in the Czech Republic from which the band took its name, are more than suitable for a Gothic Metal album. But even they cannot bring the album much replay value. |
