Review

Sinner is a band that has been around for the better part of 20 years now. Releasing their first full-length album (Wild N’Evil) all the way back in 1982. I could say that I have been a fan of the band from the very start to simply show how “metal” I truly am. Unfortunately that would make me a liar. I have to admit that I have never actually listened to any of their material before (No matter how hard I try I just cant seem to buy everything…heh). But after hearing this I may have to pick more from their rather extensive back catalogue.

For those not familiar with the band they play heavy riff oriented traditional metal. Maybe slightly heavier than Primal Fear but not by very much. This should really come as no surprise as Mat Sinner is also a current member of the aforementioned killer band, Primal Fear. Although this is a traditional style pure metal album at times it drifts to a heavier overall sound. I give most of the credit for this to the heavier riff work that is being done. At times the riffs sound more thrash influenced from the Bay Area back in its heyday. This is very noticeable on the title track as well as the song “Finalizer”. This is definitely one of those albums that will make you raise your fist s in the air and bang your head until your neck starts to hurt. The one thing that really surprised me on this album was the excellent lead guitar work. The solo’s run the gamut from absolute shred fest to an almost soulful cry. Adding all this together makes for an absolutely killer album. The only slight problem I could even find on this album was on certain songs the lead guitar sounds slightly drowned out. This could also just be my imagination and in the greater scheme of things is a very minor complaint in any event.

Overall this album really surprised me with its quality and made me end up looking on the net for some of their other albums. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Favorite Tracks-There will be Execution, Finalizer, Locked and Loaded.
