Cyprus may be a small country but they've got a band with a big sound in Winter's Verge. The band's fourth album, Beyond Vengeance, reminds me of Timeless Miracle's Into the Enchanted Chamber, not only because the vocalists sound similar, but because both bands have written some excellent Power Metal songs. This is not to say the bands sound the same. Where Timeless Miracle lets the keyboards carry the melody on many songs, Winter's Verge skew towards the guitars, which are much more powerful and feature a lot more crunch. There are still plenty of hooks and catchy melodies on Beyond Vengeance but the album has a darker, Mystic Prophecy feel to it. The performances are excellent and almost all the songs are above average though none are what I'd call truly memorable. With Timeless Miracle on hold, Winter's Verge have stepped up and filled the gap with an album that is both familiar and distinctive. Beyond Vengeance is a solid, dark Power Metal album and I look forward to future releases from Winter's Verge. |
