At long last, North East England death metallers Dawn Of Chaos are ready to unleash their debut album, which has been a good while in the making. Jumping off from the 2010 Promo I covered a while back, here on their debut The Need To Feed the band take the tracks from said release and add another five gut-busting numbers into the equation, altogether combining into technically sautéed labyrinth of skull crushing modern death metal.
Performances are spot-on across the board, from the violent low growling vocals to the scything guitar attack (featuring some mighty fine solos, might I add) all the way up to the well oiled beast that is the rhythm section. The dynamic is good, with varying changes of pace from full-speed ahead blast-you-into-the-ground territory right up to slower, mid-paced grooving sections. The quality mix ensures each of the instruments are clear and distinctive without losing any of the bite that is so demanded by their chosen style. Anyone who cares about acts such as Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal or Suffocation are going to be in for a treat, especially with tracks such as "Engineering Atrocities", the limb-removing "Abominatrix" or the solid groove of the title track.
Dawn Of Chaos don't necessarily break any new ground here on The Need To Feed; what they do is slap the listener in the face with their brazen brand of modern death metal. With enough care put into the songwriting and arrangement there should be something here to please the majority of genre connoisseurs. All in all, a quality debut release from a promising, homegrown extreme metal act. This one comes recommended to those in need of a face ripping!
