There is no shortage of Gothic and/or Symphonic bands coming from Italy. Pursuing the End has all the melancholy melodies and operatic female vocals fans of this style could wish for on their latest single, Withering. The two songs (plus an instrumental intro) are well played, as you would expect, but it is all stuff you've heard a hundred times from Nightwish or Luca Turilli's Dreamquest. There's nothing in the dual male and female vocals or the performances that sets Pursuing the End apart. Withering is good and fans won't shut it off out of hand but they won't really need to seek it out, either. Pursuing the End is talented, to be sure, but at this point they are just a face in a very big crowd. |
