This is some seriously crushing shit. Aeon have been also-rans in the Death Metal scene for four albums now, producing decent but nonessential works that satisfy without being especially memorable or innovative. Aeons Black is their fourth album, and despite the fact that it does not deviate from their formula appreciably, it still kills.
This time out, Aeon got a vicious production job that puts serious meat on the bones of their riffs. The band wrote a shit-ton of songs with solid riffing and they just play the shit out of them, unafraid to wallow in sheer heaviness and brass-knuckled pummeling. As always, this band walks a line between NY-styled DM bands like Immolation and Polish acts like Vader or Trauma. Despite that they are a Swedish band, there's not much Swedish-sounding about this. What you get here is brutal, smashing Death Metal that doesn't give a fuck about anything but kicking your ass. Derivative but addictive as hell.
