Archaean Harmony describe themselves as technical Black Metal, so let's call them that. However, after listening to this CD a few times, if I were asked to categorize them my answer would be "uh... well... oh, look! A UFO!". Ok maybe not, but the point is, in less than 30 minutes Archaean Harmony treats the listener with what sometimes sound like brutal Black Metal, then more atmospheric, keyboard-accompanied stuff, with a little doomy touch for flavor. The vocals are sometimes of the BM screech variety, then sometimes more like a cleaner, whisper-like voice. Add to that a little progressive metal. In other words, it's very hard to describe this music, it really has to be experienced. Aggressivity, melody, technical prowess, originality. All that in less than 30 minutes. The production is alright but could be better (this is a repackaging of a promo used to promote the band to labels), and, as usual, I could live without the drum machine - get a drummer. ;) If you like Black Metal and don't mind having a lot of stuff thrown into it, you should definitely check those guys out. Some songs are available on mp3.com: http://www.mp3.com/archaean. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that those guys get signed pretty soon. |
