So here we have the latest release from one-man death metal project Flatulated. I didn't hear the last release but here on They Came From The Crypt Flatulated spew forth (or should that be excrete) a virulent storm of bog standard death metal.
What is good about this release is that there are a lot of quality riffs to be had, and they are certainly worthy of a good headbang. The lead guitar playing is well done, with solos shooting out all over the release, and in the opening track "Wake Up" at any moment possible. There's some slight grind influence, this mostly falls in the short song lengths, as well as the disgusting themes. There is also a slight death 'n' roll vibe offered up on "Cyber Mutation" which also houses one of the finer guitar solos on the album.
What isn't so good about this release is the vocals, which whilst served in various styles don't sit so well with me, the brutal death metal style vocals are the least impressive and really don't leave a good impression. Another niggle - and this is really quite major as it heavily pollutes the album - is excerpts from films and video games, which really feel tacked on and fail to do anything other than annoy.
Overall this is a good release, and you can listen to it for free, which is always a bonus. The production is as expected from a one-man project, and is certainly listenable. Fans of Impaled and Carcass might well find something to enjoy here, and whilst unspectacular is worth checking out.
