This is a Doom/Death band who produced a demo and an EP back in the 90s, but then broke up and only recently re-formed with an almost entirely new lineup except for band mainstay, bassist Olexandr Kostko. This originally came out in 2010, but this is a re-release from 2011, so I'm not sure why I have it now. This is very standard Doom/Death. The riffs are fairly repetitive, but not too bad. The harsh vocals are actually a really solid bellow, but the clan vocals are horrible and are used too much. There are some solid bits on this disc, but overall it just doesn't stand out from the crowd that much. This does show some promise, and here and there some real first-rate passages (as on the epic opening of "Worm") perk up the proceedings. But overall Apostate are just too derivative to be exciting. |
