Progressive Metal from the United Kingdom, this time, courtesy of Kent's Ariya via their latest album, Myopia. Ariya go for a modern Progressive sound, similar to Coexistence or Kingcrow, in that they feature some drop/down-tuned guitars and occasional harsh vocals. It is a decent sound, but one that seems to be getting a little trendy and strays a little too close to metalcore. This is an independent release but I still have to say the sound is a little muddy, almost like the high end got cut off. There's certainly talent evident in the performances, which are above average, but the songwriting is flat and seems a little too focused on the riffs rather than a song as a whole. Progressive fans won't hate this but won't hear anything that will blow them away either. |
