The fuck happened? After the superlative Kitab Al Awthan back in 2012, I was excited to see that this band had another one out. I had hoped they would take their music in an even darker, more mystical direction, but that's not what happened. What happened is this band dosed up on tweety keyboard melodies and punched up the industrial elements in their sound until they sound entirely like something played by a machine. The production has turned everything, even the guitars, into something that sounds like it was faked on a computer. The songs are dull and plodding, and the melodies are bouncy, forced, and almost cheerful - all of it layered through so many effects it has every ounce of life crushed out of it. Highly disappointing. |
