Sinbreed's Shadows is an absolute pounding monster of an album. Crunchy, Germanic Power Metal in the Primal Fear/Iron Fire vein is the name of the game and Sinbreed puts the pedal to the metal and rarely lets up. The album opens with the ferocious "Bleed," played at top speed, and it sets the bar high. The vocals are a gritty, wide-ranging bellow, very much in the Mark Tornillo mold. Other high-octane ass kickers include "Leaving the Road" and "Broken Wings." A few songs feature songwriting that is a bit more pedestrian though the overall quality of Shadows is high. I love the fact that even the "slower" songs move along at a good clip and the riffs are pile high, like cordwood. There are no real weak spots, just the aforementioned songs that are somewhat less memorable than some others. Fans of Primal Fear, faster Accept and all quality, crunchy Power Metal should not hesitate to add Shadows to their collections.
