Kill Ritual, featuring former members of Imagika (Steve Rice on vocals) and Dark Angel (Danyael Williams on bass), still seem to be an unknown entity for many but in their short existence (Kill Ritual was formed in October 2010 by Rice and Wayne DeVecchi), they have released two full-length studio albums, which is pretty amazing. Kill Ritual's debut, The Serpentine Ritual, which was mixed/mastered by Andy LaRocque at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden, was well received among Metal fans worldwide. Their follow-up album, The Eyes of Medusa, released two years later, was recorded at Fossil Sound, San Jose CA and Fang Studio, San Mateo CA and, again, the mixing/mastering process was taken care of by Mr. LaRocque at his own studio in Sweden.

While The Serpentine Ritual basically kicked open the door for Kill Ritual, The Eyes of Medusa comes through the wall like an uninvited guest, raging like a six-ton bulldozer, changing colors like a chameleon under the brightest sunset you can imagine. Kill Ritual's strength is that they strive for as versatile a sound as possible on The Eyes of Medusa. Kill Ritual are able to find gears for their machine which, when engaged, sound like a murderously lethal killing machine and others that bring out the softer side, calming things down with little effort. They mix pure unadulterated Heavy Metal with some Thrash Metal and some Power Metal, keeping the intensity levels running high all the time. Sometimes vocalist Josh "Crimson" Gibson even manages to scare the hell out me by mimicking Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) quite well (check out the beginning of "Writing of the Wall"). The band is on fire on this new record. Kill Ritual's sound is rich, fresh, heavy, and melodic and they are obviously determined to better what they did on their promising debut album in every way.

It's truly refreshing hear a Metal band bravely stumble along their own path without really paying attention to what is going on around them and not caring if they fit into current musical trends or not. Kill Ritual deserves your respect and attention.
