One advantage with Deströyer 666 not being in an exclusive contract with Season of Mist (at least it doesn't look like they do ;)) is that between full- length albums they can release more material in 7" or MCD format, as is the case here. "Terror Abraxas" is bound to please most of the band's fans, no matter what period, since it is roughly a mix of all the different sounds they've had in the past, but especially from the last two albums. Five songs are presented here, four originals plus a cover of W. Rule's (no idea who that is) "Prometheus", interestingly the only one I have a bit of a problem with - at least with its slightly annoying chorus that gets tiring after a few listens. All songs are in the 3-4 minutes range, except for the excellent epic "Trialed by Fire" which clocks in at a little over 7 minutes. This one is more varied than the four other songs which are more like full-blast rockers (D666 style), while here there's some more variety in the tempo - things can go from full-speed to near standstill and anything in-between, and it stands out so much from the others that by the end, this the THE song that'll stick in your mind. One of the best songs by the band for sure.
Don't expect any new sound here, but the band showcases improvements at all levels.. Call it evolution without wimpification. Anyone who likes at least some of the band's earlier material should find something for them here... A quick jab while awaiting the next full-length, from a band that has yet to disappoint.
