When I reviewed Alkira's EP Red Devil in September 2013, I described their sound as Bay Area with vocals on the harsher end of the spectrum and that has not changed with the release of their new full-length Juggernaut. What has changed is that the band's playing has gotten tighter, the riffs have gotten more vicious and the vocals boil with additional ire. In other words, Alkira have definitely improved in the year between releases. The songs on Juggernaut are more fully formed though they still aren't as catchy as the Testaments or Sepulturas of the world, so there's still room for improvement. But, as I said in my Red Devil review, the pit at an Alkira show must be intense. Alkira is a Thrash Metal band on the rise so fans of the genre need to hop on the ride now. |
