Sweden's Air Raid is another in a long line of bands from that country that worship all things 80s with a special fondness for the NWOBHM. And dammit if they aren't really good at it. I can't speak for their debut full-length but album #2, Point of Impact, is a fine slice of classic Traditional Metal that unabashedly channels early British heroes. Speedsters like "Bound to Destroy" and "We Got the Force" (the album highlight) should have echoes of Saxon's "Motorcycle Man" and "Wheels of Steel" ringing in your ears, even if the subject matter is different. The guitar harmonies and pre-Power Metal speed of the drums are spot-on. Mid-paced cuts like "Madness" and "Flying Fortress," a pitch-perfect instrumental in the vein of "Losfer Words," will bring the mighty Maiden to mind with some galloping bass lines. Finally, the guitar work on songs like "The Fire Within" and "Victim of the Night" are pure Michael Schenker.
If you couldn't tell, I really like Point of Impact and highly recommend it to all fans of Traditional/NWOBHM and newer bands like Enforcer, Striker, Katana, etc.
