Dawn of the 5th Era is the fifth full-length from Finland's MeloDeath stalwarts Mors Principium Est. The style should be familiar to even the most casual fan by now but for those just out of a cave Death Metal vocals grace music that ranges from keyboard-driven Power to downright Thrash but is always melodic, never particularly harsh. On their last album, ...And Death Said Live, Mors Principium Est used more noticeable keyboards and that's been toned down quite a bit on Dawn of the 5th Era. That's a good thing in my book and the band's music more closely resembles Ex Deo than, say, Children of Bodom. The guitars get to shine and have some interesting, almost Technical Death Metal phrases and runs (check out the solo on "We Are the Sleep") which gives the album a touch of the unique even if most of it doesn't stray from the formula in any appreciable way.

If you are big fan of MeloDeath, Dawn of the 5th Era should fit nicely in your collection as Mors Principium Est do a pretty good job striking a balance between the "Melo" and the "Death" on album number five.
