There are two bands in Colombia using the Alcoholic Force moniker; one comes from Medellín, Antioquia, and plays Thrash Metal while the one reviewed here comes from Pasto, Nariño, and plays Punk-influenced Speed 'n Roll. Gasoline Drinkers - Fantomania IV is the title of this band's compilation CD and offers no less than 20 short tracks that all sound like they have been recorded live at a band rehearsal without any over-dubs. Alcoholic Force's filthy, raw, Motörhead-meets-a-more-punk-Venom approach undoubtedly sounds fun and must be something to see live, I can imagine. But after like 3-4 songs, its charm starts wearing off because the band is just repeating the same recipe over and over again until you get fed up with it. That's what happened to yours truly anyway. Sure, Alcoholic Force is the kind of band that would be nice to share with your friends during a booze-filled Friday night when getting shitfaced, high or whatever but that's about it, I am afraid. |
