Adrenaline Shot is a killer little EP of Germanic-flavored Thrash from Greece’s Amken. This is a band that has no pretentions, no illusions about who they are or who they want to be. Jackhammer riffing, ringing bass and harsh vocals in the style of Mille or Tom Angelripper are the hallmarks of each track on this four-song effort. There’s nothing remotely unique but who gives a shit? The production is clean and that gives the band’s insane energy all the room it needs to sweep you into the maelstrom of songs like "Adrenaline Shot" and "Zombie Pets." And to be honest, 19:49 of this stuff is sufficient. I think if Amken tried to stretch this out to a full album we’d have gotten a bunch of filler packed in around the actual interesting riffs. As it is, when "God’s Asleep" ends I find myself thinking, "that’s it?" and looking forward to the band’s next effort. Good marketing, I say. If European Thrash that pulls no punches winds you up, grab a copy of Adrenaline Shot and wade into the pit. |
