For Russian Doom, this is ok. It has some very good melodic doom riffing, and creates a good atmosphere. The recording has that characteristic high-gain sound of Russian bands, without the depth I would prefer, and not as much shading as this band could benefit from. The vocals are a dry and one-dimensional gargle, mixed upfront so they can't be avoided. There is some really great riffing and melodic work on this album, but the songs themselves don't have much shape to them, and so the whole thing comes off as kind of meandering. Moody, sometimes great, but not compelling. |
