Formed in Brazil in 1999, Dark Witch released three demos in the 2000's: Dark Witch, Heavy Metal Burns On and Wild Heart. Finally, this year, the band graces us with its first full length with The Circle of Blood, and it absolutely obliterates everything. Counting on the impeccable vocal lines of Bill Martins, known for his work with Hellish War, these Brazilians deliver a stellar performance with strong and galloping riffs, honest songwriting and really, really audible bass – a rarity these days.

Imagine a mix between Crescent Shield, Battleroar, Paragon, Brainstorm and Wizard, and you will have an idea of what this album sounds like. Songs like "To Valhalla We Ride" and "Liberty is Death" feature potent, epic choirs and mid-paced riffs, while "Siegfried" delivers a slow start but catches fire afterwards, with faster guitar work and raw vocals. "Cauldron", "Lighthouse Reaper" and "Stronghold" are other highlights on the album, but then, which song isn't? There is a small problem with the production though, because many of these songs were recorded years ago, but nothing that ruins the experience. In fact, for many of us, the more organic and raw material can be a good thing because it improves the True Metal atmosphere that surrounds the album.

For me, so far this is the best album of 2015, and it stands so much higher than the others it's not even fair. An honest piece of work by an extremely talented group that has the power to be one of the most respected acts in the underground scene. If you are a true Heavy Metal fan and like to keep your music true to its roots, listen to The Circle of Blood. This album is a celebration of true Heavy Metal and, in my opinion, an instant classic.
