It's been four long years since Finnish Black/Death Metal outfit Forgotten Horror released their debut album, The Serpent Creation. For those of you who are not aware of this camp's history yet, Forgotten Horror is the sole creation of Tuomas Karhunen (a.k.a. Cvlt in Deathchain) with fellow Deathchain drummer Kassara also in the band.

Aeon of the Shadow Goddess, Forgotten Horror's second album, has been long in the making. It is also true that wine gets better with age. Fortunately, that's the case with Forgotten Horror too and it sounds like a lot of sweat, blood and time have been put into this record.

Aeon of the Shadow Goddess differs from its predecessor drastically with better, more polished and more complex multi-layered song structures that carry more melodic, blackened Metal elements than ever before. Dissection's ghost and influence will always remain an integral part of Forgotten Horror's sound but this time it's not as noticeable as it was on the band's hair-raising debut album, The Serpent Creation.

The big difference between Forgotten Horror's debut and this follow-up album is the striking dynamics possessed by the songs. Each one flows better and is more diverse than ever before and Mariann Hermansson's beautiful soprano vocals give the album more depth. It gets under the listener's skin easily. One can certainly hear that Tuomas has poured all his ambitious visions and energies into this record. His songwriting has improved remarkably on Aeon of the Shadow Goddess compared to Forgotten Horror's debut and I for one can already imagine this album finding its way on to my personal top 10 list for 2015.
