Finnish Death Metal is doing well these days. The first wave, which happened at the end of the 80s, paved the way for the second wave of corpse-shredding Death Metal acts. Amputory is a 5-piece band that made its grand entrance back in 2009 and just released their debut album Ode to Gore on Spain's Xtreem Music. Musically, they don't bring anything new to the table but including some of the best Death Metal ingredients often does the trick. Amputory has realized this and has recorded a relatively impressive debut.
Ode to Gore combines the murky, atmospheric and eerie elements of early Demigod with the merciless Panzerfaust-like heaviness and simplicity of Bolt Thrower and puts Amputory's name at the top of the pile of Finnish Death Metal acts. While most of their Death Metal is 100% old school, on the song "Aghori" they have added a bit of Eastern flavor. Otherwise they have decided on a recipe that works for them and will hopefully allow them to continue on their chosen path for a long time. It's a pity that there's only 33+ minutes of music on this disc. They should have recorded a couple of extra songs in order to achieve the optimal running time for their debut. There's always next time, right?
Heavy, dark and old school Finnish Death Metal can be found right here. Did those adjectives stir up you interest towards Amputory yet?
