Chilean bands seem to have the best understanding of how to do Death Metal right. It should be heavy, dark, menacing and brutal and first and foremost it should grab your attention immediately, from the first song. This is exactly what Santiago's Denying Nazarene does on their second album, Possessed by the Light and Deception, which has been released only on vinyl at this time.

Last year it was Chile's Thy Serpent's Cult that crucified my ears with their second album Sedition, Sorcery and Blasphemy and now it's Denying Nazarene's turn. Possessed by the Light and Deception has everything I crave in my Death Metal. It's a dark, heavy and brutally old school tour de force of Death Metal. If you combine some of the early semi-progressiveness of Immolation with Sadistic Intent you have the basics of how Denying Nazarene sound. No gimmicks, no trends, no bullshit; just full-bodied, dark and heavy Death Metal from five like-minded individuals who share a similar vision. It is truly hard to get tired of this totally brilliant release; it swallows you whole.

Support this band and label, preferably today. As the label's name shamelessly and bravely suggests, some heavy shit can be expected from Denying Nazarene.
