Journey to the Depths is a Black/Thrash cassette demo courtesy of Belgium's Maleficence. Originally released independently it is now getting a re-release (again on cassette) by Blood Harvest. It mixes Thrash riffs, a la early Slayer, with unholy shouts and tremolo picking in the foul mode of Mayhem. The four tracks clock in at a tidy 17:34 and while there's nothing original the band is tight and delivers each hammer blow to the head with surgical precision. If you like Desaster, Aura Noir and the like Maleficence is a band to watch and Journey to the Depths a tape to grab when you find it. |
