Let me point out that I have never heard The Lamp of Thoth in my life. I guess my knowledge of Metal music in general lacks something, doesn't it?

Get Thothed - Vol. I is the first in a series of EPs by Arkham Witch where they play songs originally by The Lamp of Thoth (both bands share vocalist Simon Iff? and drummer Emily Ninguable). I have no idea if Arkham Witch does justice to the original songs but they sound darn entertaining anyway. The five songs on this EP are all taken from T.L.O.T. releases (for example "Skull Fuel" and "The Lamp of Thoth" originally appeared on T.L.O.T's 2006 demo) and it's hard to resist Arkham Witch's groovy, rocking and oddly hippy-ish Heavy Rock versions. Undoubtedly early Black Sabbath, mostly the Vol. 4 era with more progressive moments, is what comes to mind especially the song "Wings of Doom." Then again, songs like "The Lamb of Thoth" and "Sing As You Slay" both have roots in bombastic Heavy Metal which is pretty different from the rest.

Nevertheless, Get Thothed - Vol. I was pretty fun to listen to and makes me curious about the original songs. I can thank Arkham Witch for that.
