Now this is an unholy thrashing kick in the face. Athor are an unsigned band from Colombia who play a fist-pumping, head-flailing kind of Thrash flavored with Black Metal by way of Hellhammer or Sodom. You get fistfuls of thrashing riffs, blazing speed, and hate-spitting vocals right out of Onslaught's The Force or Slayer's Show No Mercy – other albums that this reminds me of in many ways. Where this really shines is riffs – just song after song of thrashtastic, classic metal air-guitar riffs. Sure this is nothing that has not been done before, but Athor are not trying to be original, they are just trying to thrash the fuck out and have a good time, and that they do with room to spare. If you wish there were more Thrash albums like they used to make in the old days, then Athor with get your head flailing. I mean, just listen to that title track – I haven't heard riffs like that since Desaster's Tyrants of the Netherworld. Recommended. |
