German-sung Black Metal. Ars Irae was born under a blood-red moon somewhere in the Bavarian territories in 2004, have been staying loyal to their native language ever since, getting two EPs and one full-length album released, prior to this follow-up album, Dunkle Klänge. With well over an hour of music, Ars Irae turns out to be a pretty unorthodox, crucifix-crushing and unique sounding Black Metal outfit. Sung with semi-death grunts, while their music is an unholy marriage between Black, Death and Thrash Metal, Dunkle Klänge's partly atmospheric, mostly mid-tempo and somewhat simple musical approach never seems to grow old despite the length of the album. The mic holder, Michael "Michi" Stuffer, also has a great, totally ripping singing style, at times reminiscent of a very similar vocal delivery that Mors Dalos Ra is able to bring into the other German extremists Necros Christos. Ars Irae is also able to use well-crafted, tormented and suffering, oozing harmonies within their songs, at times managing to paint the horizon even blacker and with more menacing colors than what the forces of nature are capable of offering at best for us at the end of summer days. Ares Irae has raised an all kinds of evilness-reeking storm, and it is coming toward you. Hide while you still can. |
