First Strike is the aptly named initial demo release from Sweden's Perpetual Crusade. The three songs are fast, boisterous Power/Thrash anthems in the vein of bands like Vicious Rumors, Helstar and Powermad. The vocals are a bit weak for what the band is trying to do, so they will need to shore that up going forward. Opener "King of Death" has probably the best riff and really gets the toes tapping. The other songs are unremarkable but you can hear the promise in the band's playing. They go at each song with gusto and there's a power in the songs that transcends the limitations of the songwriting. If you like your Metal loud, your tempos quick and your riffs on the thrashy side, Perpetual Crusade is a band you'll want to watch. |
