Okay, I'll hold my hands up. This isn't the manliest collection of songs, the riffs would struggle to topple a molehill let alone a mountain, and the recording/music itself makes the first Power Quest disc sound like Legendary Tales; but you know what, I love it. Sometimes all I want to hear is pink, tinkling Power (read: flower) Metal, and my fellow countrymen Grimgotts bring it in true sparkling, endearing glory. This is one for those who love Power Quest, early DragonForce, Heavenly, hell, almost anything put out by a bunch of guys in frilly shirts and leather waistcoats (likely Italians), or, of course, released on Underground Symphony. It's a love letter to those of us who spent our teens locked away in our rooms playing role-playing games and listening to these bands, and yes, they're most certainly partying like it's 1999. Do I really need to describe the music? The barrage of clichés I've unleashed should have most of you reeling, and those still here just know we're in double-kicking land, travelling first class via the brightest of melodies, and sugar-frosted choruses. This obviously isn't for everyone, but any fan of the style has no excuse not to grab a free download from the Grimgotts Bandcamp page. This is far more sincere to me than Gloryhammer or Twilight Force, and stands as a wonderful little time capsule. I'll happily stand by this one. Well worth a few listens! |
