North Carolina isn't particularly well known as a Heavy Metal hotbed but Final Sign is a band looking to change that perception. Their debut album, Hold High the Flame released back in 2015, is a slab of U.S.-style Power Metal featuring the speed, gritty riffing and lack of keyboards that make up the distinctive pummeling guitar-driven sound of bands like Vicious Rumors, Liege Lord and Jag Panzer. The singer has a high, strong voice and sells the lines well, though sometimes he sounds just shy of going out of tune. It took a while for tracks like "Burn the Temple Down" and "The Sinister Silence" to sink in but now they have the choruses fling themselves around inside my head like pinballs. Final Sign doesn't reinvent the wheel but Hold High the Flame stands tall and I hope these guys have something even better in store for the next album.
