The second coming of Thrash Metal, or perhaps retro-Thrash Metal (calling it by its second name), has brought several new potential names to please Thrash Metal suckers around the world. Havok, Angelus Apatrida, Violator, Warbringer, Vektor, Bonded by Blood, and many others, are some of those newer bands that are addicted to playing this aggressive and even brutal style of music.

Far up from northern Europe comes another Thrash Metal band called Angel of Sodom. This three-piece unit has been around just about five years, and there's simply no question about it, these fellows love to thrash – and thrash really hard!

Divine Retribution, the title of these Finnish speed merchants and Thrash bangers' 10-song debut album, is musically a clear bow in the direction of some of the pioneers of the whole Thrash Metal genre. Testament, Exodus, Slayer and Kreator are some of those names that seem to pop up everywhere when listening to this well-crafted opus. The guys have truly taken some devoted lessons with the notebooks of those Thrash giants, adopting bits and pieces from here and there into their own relentless Thrash outbursts on this aggressive and uncompromising album. Guitarist Eero Tertsunen's violent riff storms follow one after another, supported by singer Michael Majalahti's strongly testosterone-oozing and nasal vocal work (that brings Mr. Souza of Exodus in mind at times) and drummer Joonas Heikkinen's precise skin bashing. Angel of Sodom sound amazingly ravenous, hostile and mean on this album, like having only mission in their minds - and that's to seek and destroy all of you by a 10-ton hammer.

But seriously, these three lads know almost too well how to thrash. Check 'em out - and thank me later for recommending them.
