This is the second album of Nightwishy Symphonic Metal from this Slovakian band. Comparisons are quite easy to draw, most especially to the more recent Xandria albums. You get heavy riffs, a lot of keys, and quite good but non-operatic vocals from frontwoman Lubka Gavlasova. Anthology also make use of some growled vocals, and these are less welcome, just kind of breaking the mood. This is more than competent, and I can tell a lot of work went into it. The production is polished, the songs hang together well, and if the songwriting is not first-rate, it at least hangs together. The only real problem is that all of this is so very derivative that it tends to kind of blur together. This is a pro-level band with chops, but their sound has been done before, and they are not doing anything with it to really stand out.
