This Mortal Road is the debut from Doom band Rozamov. Lying somewhere between Solitude Aeturnus and My Dying Bride, Rozamov employs both clean and harsh singing, neither of which convey much emotion as both are deep in the mix. The songs are slow and ponderous and rather than create atmosphere, just kind of lay there like thick lead blankets. Maybe that was what Rozamov was going for but I found the album tedious. The brief instrumental "Swallowed and Lost" tries to break the drone but the respite is all too brief making This Mortal Road a one emotional note experience. |
