Pyramaze have been on a bit of a rollercoaster with their career, going from their proggy beginnings to through the muscular Immortal they did with Matt Barlow, and now they are well into their third era with new singer Terje Haroy. Their last album Disciples of the Sun was an agreeable move back toward their original sound, and Contingent finds them doing much the same again. You get clear production, good performances, and proggy songwriting to create a glossy, well-crafted experience that is still somewhat less than what they used to play. This is nowhere near as catchy and distinct as Legend of the Bone Carver or Immortal, and really sounds a lot like just a continuation of their last. If you know and like Pyramaze, then this is fine, but it's really just more of the same.
