Russian Symphonic Black/Death Metal is what the label's promotional kit's description says... On paper, it all sounds good and even slightly tempting, but let's see whether or not it will turn out to be on the better side of the genre. First off, this album, which translates to Through the Ages from their native Russian, does have a serious drive to sound like symphonic Black and Death Metal, but unfortunately their attempt to make an impressive album is left somewhere halfway finished, so to speak. To me, the whole album sounds a bit too directionless and meaningless, desperately trying to go in every possible direction while not going anywhere other than getting stuck to this one formula that has too many artificial elements glued to each other. It's like a poorly made puzzle that has too many unfitting pieces to achieve wholeness and having no chance of getting completed. The production, however, is good, but not great nor something to brag about. |
